B2B Market Data
B2B Market Data
The global B2B market data sector (as opposed to the much larger B2C market data) looks at every angle of commodities, semi manufactured, manufactured goods and services markets includingfinancial markets and commodity exchanges. It is far too wide in scope to be summarily described in a few lines but can be better addressed by looking at its constituting parts.
The more established companies from private to public and across the spectrum of good and services continually analyse their markets via the use of specific data such as price intelligence, end use market data, distribution channels analysis, or via the analysis of somewhat granulated international trade datasets along so-called HS codes. Or when conducting due diligence prior to a merger or acquisition (M&A) a suitor will conduct an exhaustive analysis of the target, analyse its competitive environment and its market. In industrial markets, a supplier of say, used cooking oil will keep an eye on international benchmarks such as soy or palm oil prices, monitor various raw material prices and try and assess product availability, watch key metrics such as oil prices, analyse consumption trends or carefully monitor the structure of the end use market (biodiesel producers) or road transportation trends etc.
As is readily apparent when conducting a search on Google, the distinction between market data, economic data and business data suppliers is blurred at best, as if there wasn’t any need to differentiate the data market. But that presumably hides another reality which may be that a number of data suppliers either operate on all or some of the three segments or simply pretend to in order to get more attention from would-be data users.
